Hopi Ear Candling is also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy, it is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions. Hopi ear candles are named after the Native American tribe who first introduced this gentle therapy to the West, Hopi Indians of North Arizona.
The client lies on his/her side on the therapist couch fully clothed. A specially designed hollow candle is gently placed into the auditory canal, where it is lit and held in a vertical position; by the therapist with their hands. You will then experience a pleasant crackling sound and a warm comfortable feeling as the candle burns (some experience a popping sound). The candle is allowed to burn down until it reaches a specific marker indicated on its side.
Remember, if in doubt, always contact your GP
Once both ears have been treated you will be left to relax for a few minutes before receiving a soothing facial massage. This helps lymph and blood circulation, as well as the natural drainage of the ear.
I use Biosun Hopi Ear Candles which are certified medical products according to EC guidelines 93/42 (EEC).
Benefits for Hopi Ear Candling may include:
Hopi Ear Candles are hollow tubes traditionally made from organically grown flax, extracts of honey, beeswax and herbs such as Sage, St Johns wort, Chamomile and pure essential oils. Candles are still hand made today on the basis of the old traditional methods originating from the Hopi Indians, using the finest organic ingredients.
The suction that is formed draws the impurities from within the ear. This process is known as the 'chimney effect'. The rising air inside the ear sets up a vibration which gently massages the eardrum. This can help to regulate the pressures involved inside the ear. The flow of air within the ear candle creates a circulation of concentrated vapour. This is soothing, calming and protects the irritated areas.
Most impurities or deposits are carried away through the candle 'chimney', although some of them can be found in the lower section of the candle after removal from the ear, or some wax could even work its way up to the surface 24-48 hours after.
The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure. A small amount of ear wax is also removed during the treatment. (From an esoteric point of view, the cleansing fire carries away negative vibrations from the fine metabolic energy fields and harmonises the energy status)
These candles provide a non-invasive, relaxing, soothing treatment of the ears which are used to treat a variety of conditions in a practice often known as Thermal Auricular Therapy.
